A Sweet Christmas Keepsake You’ll Treasure Forever
There’s something so special about capturing the little moments—and even sweeter when they fit in the palm of your hand. This year, Emmett and I made the cutest little keepsake: DIY Santa Hand Ornaments, using his tiny handprint and a few simple supplies.
This project is super easy, budget-friendly, and makes for a meaningful ornament you’ll cherish year after year. Plus, it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon crafting with your little one!

• Crayola Air Dry Clay
• Rolling pin
• Plastic knife or clay cutter
• Paint (red, white, beige, black, and pink)
• Small white pom-poms
• Hot glue gun
• Ribbon or twine
• Optional: clear sealant spray to preserve
Step-by-Step:
1. Roll out the clay into thin sheets (about ¼” thick).
2. Gently press your child’s hand into the clay to make an imprint. Use a butter knife or plastic cutter to carefully trim around the shape, and use a straw to poke hole for ribbon.
3. Let dry for 2–3 days until completely hardened.
4. Once dry, paint the handprint like Santa!
• Red for the hat, white for the trim and beard, beige for the face, and a tiny pink circle for the nose.
5. Glue on a white pom-pom to the tip of Santa’s hat.
6. Attach a ribbon to the top with hot glue or by punching a small hole before drying.
7. Optionally, spray with a clear sealant to protect it for years to come!
Why I Love It:
There’s nothing quite like a handmade ornament to mark a season of life. Emmett’s little hands won’t be this small forever—and now I’ll have this sweet Santa hand hanging on our tree for years to come. It’s the kind of keepsake that makes me teary just thinking about pulling it out each December.
Whether you’re a seasoned DIYer or just want to try something festive and meaningful, this is the perfect project to do with your babies, toddlers, or even older kids.
